OPU UK DONATES ₦5 MILLION WORTH OF ITEMS TO ORPHANAGE, HOLDS ROYAL AUDIENCE WITH OLUBADAN

As part of its commitment to humanitarian service and community development, the Oluyole Progressive Union (OPU) UK embarked on a memorable outreach programme on Friday, 29th May 2026, combining charity with cultural engagement through a donation to an orphanage home and a royal courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The day’s activities commenced with a visit to Jesus Kids Orphanage Home, where members of OPU UK presented food items, educational materials, household essentials and other relief supplies valued at approximately ₦5 million.

Speaking during the presentation, the President of OPU UK, Alhaji Akeem Akinborode, stated that the donation reflects the association’s dedication to supporting vulnerable members of society and contributing meaningfully to the welfare of communities in Ibadanland.

The management and children of the orphanage expressed profound appreciation to OPU UK for the generous gesture and offered prayers for the continued success and growth of the association and its members

Following the charity outreach, the delegation proceeded to the Olubadan Palace for a royal audience with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, former Governor of Oyo State.

During the visit, OPU UK President Alhaji Akeem Akinborode presented an overview of the history, mission and achievements of the association. He highlighted the organisation’s efforts in promoting the cultural heritage of Ibadan indigenes in the United Kingdom and informed the monarch about the charitable donation carried out earlier in the day.

The President also briefed the royal father on the forthcoming Ibadan Day Celebration in the United Kingdom, an event designed to showcase the rich culture, traditions and achievements of the people of Ibadan while strengthening ties between the diaspora community and their homeland.

Oba Adewolu Ladoja commended OPU UK for its dedication to community service, cultural promotion and philanthropy. He praised members for being worthy ambassadors of Ibadanland abroad and encouraged them to continue initiatives that foster development, unity and progress.
