A Historic Welcome to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON
As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, arrive in the United Kingdom today, March 17, 2026, for this momentous State Visit, I am filled with profound pride and a deep sense of historical significance. This is far more than a ceremonial engagement; it is a powerful affirmation of the enduring, strategic, and evolving partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

My connection to this moment is personal and meaningful. Twenty years ago, I had the honour of serving as Master of Ceremonies at a prestigious London event where His Excellency, then‑Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was celebrated for his visionary leadership of Lagos State. To have facilitated that evening, and now to witness his journey from that chapter to serving as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is truly inspiring. His story reflects resilience, consistency, courage, and an unwavering commitment to national development.
Today, we are equally privileged to welcome the First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, whose distinguished record of public service, educational advocacy, and empowerment initiatives continues to uplift millions across Nigeria and the diaspora. Her presence on this State Visit highlights the values of family, dignity, and compassionate leadership that enrich our national narrative.
This State Visit presents a pivotal opportunity to transform shared history into meaningful collaboration. As the President and First Lady engage with UK leadership, my hope is that these discussions will:
- Catalyse expanded trade and investment, opening new pathways for Nigerian businesses and entrepreneurs.
- Strengthen critical security partnerships, ensuring stability and prosperity for our people.
- Deepen cultural and educational exchanges, empowering the next generation of Nigerian leaders both at home and across the diaspora.
We particularly celebrate the First Lady’s steadfast commitment to education, youth empowerment, and social development areas where Nigeria and the UK can forge impactful, future‑focused partnerships.
This visit is ultimately about building bridges that deliver real, measurable benefits for every Nigerian. As members of the diaspora, we stand ready to support initiatives that advance progress, innovation, and shared prosperity.
Welcome, Mr President and First Lady.
Please accept the assurances my warm regards and high esteem.
