A Legacy Spanning Military Rule and Democratic Leadership

Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, Buhari first rose to prominence as a Major General in the Nigerian Army. He led Nigeria as Military Head of State following a 1983 coup and later returned to power through democratic elections in 2015, securing reelection in 2019.

His tenure, both military and civilian, was marked by firm anti-corruption policies, security initiatives, and economic reforms, a legacy marked by both praise and contention.

As Nigeria marks the end of an era with the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, reflections on his life and leadership will continue to unfold across generations. From military rule to democratic governance, his journey shaped key moments in the nation’s political history.

May his soul rest in peace.
