Tobi Amusan Makes History: Wins Third Diamond League Trophy

Tobi Amusan, the world record holder, etched her name in history books once more. In an electrifying performance at the Prefontaine Classic held at Hayward Field, USA, Nigerian sprinter Tobi Amusan made an astonishing comeback after her 6th-place finish at the World Championships in Budapest. Amusan soared to victory in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, clinching her third consecutive Diamond League trophy with a stunning time of 12.33 seconds.

Puerto Rico’s hurdler Jasmine Camacho-Quinn secured the second position, displaying her remarkable speed with a time of 12.38 seconds. American hurdler Keni Harrison claimed the third position with a time of 12.44 seconds. Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, the reigning World Champion in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, finished with a time of 12.47 seconds.

Amusan’s journey to becoming a three-time Diamond League champion began in 2021 when she ran a blazing 12.42 seconds.  She then became the first Nigerian to win a Diamond League title. In 2022, at the Weltklasse meeting in Zurich, Switzerland, she silenced her doubters and defended her title after dipping a win of 12.29 seconds. 

Amusan has now made it a hat trick of Diamond League wins. She reaffirmed her status as the uncontested queen of the Women’s 100m Hurdles.
